Tension
Tension happens when there is a force that is pulling two things apart from each other. The tension of an object increases, when the molecules and atoms of it begin to be separated more and more. Since tension is a in the units of force, it is measured by newtons.
When puppies are learning to walk on a leash they like to
pull on the leash and try to run away, this is an example of tension. The puppy and the person walking the puppy are both exerting force on the leash. The puppy is pulling away and the person is trying to pull them back, resulting in tension. |
1. If you are walking two puppies at once with a leash in each hand, and one puppy is much larger than the other, which leash has more tension?
The Leash holding the larger dog will have more tension.
2. If the dog leash can hold 20 pounds of tension, and 27 pounds of tension are put on the leash, what happens to the leash?
The Puppy will come out of the leash, because 7 extra pounds of tension are put on the leash than it can handle.
